2021 Labour Market Conference
2021 Ontario Labour Market Conference
July 8 and 9, 2021
Similar to the Great Depression or World War II, the pandemic will be shaping Ontario's labour market for decades to come. Sectors such as tourism. accommodation, entertainment and recreation will take years to recover while sectors such as health care, technology and finance will be shaped in unexpected ways creating entirely new jobs while eliminating others. This year's labour market conference will bring together leaders in education, industry and government to talk about the changes which have occurred and what people can expect in the years to come.
We're finalizing our agenda and speaker roster but the conference is organized with attention to all of the following areas:
Industry Presentations: Recognizing the importance of getting first hand insights from industry experts, we're arranging for speakers to present on the following sectors: Tourism, Construction, Manufacturing, Trucking, Health Care and Food Service / Restaurants.
Panel Discussions: We have three panel discussions planned which will explore what individual communities around Ontario are doing to generate economic development; small business support to the gig economy; the impact of the pandemic on non-profits.
Break-Out Groups: The unemployment rate has been exponentially higher throughout the pandemic for groups that are generally under-represented in the labour market to begin with. As such, we're arranging break-out groups to assist you in better supporting 1. Immigrants; 2. Indigenous Canadians; 3. Those with Disabilities; 4. Women; and 5. Youth.
Labour Market Experts: We're organizing a number of experts to discuss critical areas such as education and training; apprenticeship; employment programming; and future projections for Ontario's labour market.
Fun and Games: To engage participants, we plan to build-in opportunities for networking; competitions and games with a labour market theme.
